Donna focuses her practice on patents in biotechnology, chemistry and pharmaceuticals. She assists clients in developing patent portfolio and prosecution strategies for products in development and provides strategic IP evaluation and due diligence support in connection with technology transfer and M&A activities.
Donna joined Servilla Whitney in 2009 after over twenty years of experience in corporate practice with large and small companies in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical sectors. These include Becton Dickinson and Company, Enzon Pharmaceuticals and Genta Incorporated. She has had roles in both business development and research organizations, advising on intellectual property matters relating to development and execution of portfolio strategies, opinions and analysis, third party licensing and acquisition opportunities, business transaction due diligence and technology commercialization clearance. In addition to managing intellectual property portfolios, she has participated in negotiations and managed the drafting of agreements related to intellectual property. Particular areas of expertise include biologics, molecular diagnostics, drug delivery technologies and formulations, biopharmaceuticals, cell engineering and nucleic acid technologies.
Donna’s Ph.D. research at The Waksman Institute of Microbiology, Rutgers University, focused on regulation of gene expression at the molecular level in eukaryotic cells. This area of research was further developed in two subsequent post doctoral research positions at Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Before pursuing a career in patent law, Donna was a research scientist for Interferon Sciences, Inc., developing recombinant expression systems for production of interferons.
Donna is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She has also completed the Advanced Licensing Institute at Franklin Pierce Law Center.
Outside the office, Donna enjoys the beach, scuba diving and biking.
